Whenever a tragedy happens in the world, we automatically highlight the negatives of the incident, but we rarely stop to think of the positives. Although it seems like a sad thought that there are positives surrounding the incident, we seem to underestimate how well communities work together and provide aid to people in need.
It is amazing how much and how fast aid can be provided to people in need. After an earthquake caused approximately 230 thousand casualties in Haiti, the United States of America sent hundreds of ships, helicopters, and marine units into the country to provide aid and support Haitians by providing food, clean water and sanitary conditions for people who require medical assistance.
Many organizations, most notable the Red Cross, have been collecting money and donations from countries around the world to assist the Haitians who have been affected by the tragedy. Certain individuals have also brought it upon themselves to help Haitians in need by either providing money or personally traveling to Haiti to provide first aid.
I think that schools around the world should continue to collect donations and promote students to actively participate in trying to help the situation in Haiti. Raising awareness amongst communities and getting them to actively participate is the first step to becoming a more global citizen and uniting the people against such tragedies.
Due to the lack of supplies and food caused by the earthquake, security in the country, mainly the capital city of Port au Prince, has become an issue with people raiding and stealing from stores in order to survive. But like in every community, there are people who abuse the freedom of a security-less capital and steal for their personal gains, so the United Nations have sent troops into the country to patrol the streets and maintain security levels.
Over all this tragedy had caused pain and suffering for the Haitian people but has shown us that when we unite and work together, society can do enough.
Politics and political problems are a subject for adults to deal with.
Agree- Children don’t really belong with politics, they can’t take such big responsibilities, they wouldn’t understand these concepts and they’re basically less experienced, compared to a guy who’s being doing this over 5 years, let’s say.
All scenarios can have a happy ending if those involved work towards it.
Agree- When you set a goal to yourself, you’re of course going to try to achieve it. If you’ve moved on from something that happened, or studied a lot more, and took your time revising and worked towards getting what you want, then what you want to happen, will happen.
Disagree- Some people are just not like others. For example family problems, alcohol, drugs and all that, can make you have a miserable life if you don’t try to stop it, stop you’re life, and start all over again. Some people can’t do that though, as much as the want, they can’t get away with it.
Literacy(Being able to read and write) is a form of freedom.
Agree- If you are illiterate then you are no better or worse as a person because of that fact. However, those who can read and write have a great advantage over those who cannot. They have access to the power of the written word. They can influence others by utilising this skill, and understand what is going on around them more fully.
Civilizations without a written language cannot effectively document history.
Agree- Agree- Civilization without a written language cannot effectively document history because all the information we get, is written down. If this didn’t happen we wouldn’t know anything about our ancestors, and all the myths we hear about. Also after many generations our grand, grand, grand children will get the chance to know about out history and how we lived in this century.
