Haiti Relief

Whenever a tragedy happens in the world, we automatically highlight the negatives of the incident, but we rarely stop to think of the positives. Although it seems like a sad thought that there are positives surrounding the incident, we seem to underestimate how well communities work together and provide aid to people in need.

It is amazing how much and how fast aid can be provided to people in need. After an earthquake caused approximately 230 thousand casualties in Haiti, the United States of America sent hundreds of ships, helicopters, and marine units into the country to provide aid and support Haitians by providing food, clean water and sanitary conditions for people who require medical assistance.

Many organizations, most notable the Red Cross, have been collecting money and donations from countries around the world to assist the Haitians who have been affected by the tragedy. Certain individuals have also brought it upon themselves to help Haitians in need by either providing money or personally traveling to Haiti to provide first aid.

I think that schools around the world should continue to collect donations and promote students to actively participate in trying to help the situation in Haiti. Raising awareness amongst communities and getting them to actively participate is the first step to becoming a more global citizen and uniting the people against such tragedies.
Due to the lack of supplies and food caused by the earthquake, security in the country, mainly the capital city of Port au Prince, has become an issue with people raiding and stealing from stores in order to survive. But like in every community, there are people who abuse the freedom of a security-less capital and steal for their personal gains, so the United Nations have sent troops into the country to patrol the streets and maintain security levels.

Over all this tragedy had caused pain and suffering for the Haitian people but has shown us that when we unite and work together, society can do enough.

Taste of Salt Anticipation Guide

Politics and political problems are a subject for adults to deal with.
Agree
-
Children don’t really belong with politics, they can’t take such big responsibilities, they wouldn’t understand these concepts and they’re basically less experienced, compared to a guy who’s being doing this over 5 years, let’s say.

All scenarios can have a happy ending if those involved work towards it.
Agree-
When you set a goal to yourself, you’re of course going to try to achieve it. If you’ve moved on from something that happened, or studied a lot more, and took your time revising and worked towards getting what you want, then what you want to happen, will happen.

Disagree- Some people are just not like others. For example family problems, alcohol, drugs and all that, can make you have a miserable life if you don’t try to stop it, stop you’re life, and start all over again. Some people can’t do that though, as much as the want, they can’t get away with it.

Literacy(Being able to read and write) is a form of freedom.
Agree-
If you are illiterate then you are no better or worse as a person because of that fact. However, those who can read and write have a great advantage over those who cannot. They have access to the power of the written word. They can influence others by utilising this skill, and understand what is going on around them more fully.

Civilizations without a written language cannot effectively document history.
Agree-
Agree- Civilization without a written language cannot effectively document history because all the information we get, is written down. If this didn’t happen we wouldn’t know anything about our ancestors, and all the myths we hear about. Also after many generations our grand, grand, grand children will get the chance to know about out history and how we lived in this century.

Characterization Project‏ images

The Outsiders Characterization Project‏

Johnny:
"He is the youngest, next to Ponyboy, smaller than the rest, with a slight build. He has big black eyes, and a dark tanned face. He's hair is black, greasy and combed to the side, but because it was so long it fell in shaggy bang across his forehead." Johnny is a 16 year old boy and he’s like the centre
of affection. He’s the one that get's picked at the most, and has family problems.

He’s a very unstable person, always very shy and nervous.

“You can picture Johnny as a little dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers.” pg.11
“He was nervous, though, Johnny was always nervous around strangers.”

Sodapop:
He’s the handsomer than anyone else, more like a movie-star character. He always looks stunning and gorgeous, the type of boy all girls drawl over him. He has dark-gold hair and dark brown eyes.

Soda is very understanding and trustful, he doesn’t like to drink alcohol and that’s what makes him look cool I must say. He’s always very lively and reckless.

“He can get drunk in a drag race or dancing without even getting near alcohol. In our neighbourhood its rare to find a kid who doesn’t drink once a while. But Soda never touches a drop- he doesn’t need to. He gets drunk on just plain living” pg.8

Dallas:
"Dallas had high cheek bones, small sharp animal teeth, his eyes were blue, blazing ice and his hair fell over his forehead and kicked out in the back in tufts and curled behind his ears."

He is the real character of the gang, the strongest and toughest out of all of them, mean and colder. He had quite a reputation, had a file at the police station for doing tons of crimes, like cheating, stealing, jumping small kids, riding in rodeos, lying all that kind of stuff. But they had to respect him.

“I didn’t like him, but he was smart and you had to respect him”. pg.11
“He was tougher than the rest of us- tougher, colder, meaner” . pg.10

Darrel:
"He’s has dark-brown hair, he’s six-feet-two and muscular. He has pale blue-green ice eyes, his tough, cool, and smart. He looks a lot like his father."

Darrel is a smart guy, even though he doesn’t understand anything or anyone. He’s tough from the outside but very sensitive from the inside. He went through a lot of drama after he's parents died, taking charge of he's two little brothers while he was himself a young kid. He love's he's brother's!

“Darry is hard and firm and rarely grins at all. But then, Darry’s gone though a lot in his twenty years, grownup too fast”.

Ponyboy:
"He has greenish-gray eyes, and long, light brown greasy hair."

Ponyboy is a smart kid, cares about others and his an individual. He does things other would never do.

“If I brought home B’s, he wanted A’s and I got A’s, he wanted to make sure they stayed A’s. If I was playing football, I should be in studying. And if I was reading, I should be out playing football”. pg.13 So basically the quote is saying that everybody care's for him, and want him to succeed in he's life.

Greaser or Socs?

You have to be a socs, that’s where you belong! If you haven’t noticed,
socials are not just random people, they’re special, and different from everyone else. We are rich, which that means we can go to school and get educated, we normally drive around with expensive cars and wear expensive cloths, we’re much more civilized, and basically we have got a better life style, and we’re simply the best! You would be much happier if you come with us.

One of the most important reasons why you should come with us, we’re civilized. Who would want to hang out with friends which are violent and always get into fights, like greasers? They have no respect for anyone or anything. They go around stealing and killing people, and they think that this, makes them look cool. Sometimes though socials get into fights, but that’s because greasers have probably asked for it. You will feel more safe being around socials.

Another good reason about the socs, is that we come from really good and rich families. This way we can go to school and get educated, and once we grow up, to succeed. Also being rich is basically a much easier life for you. You don’t have to work to gain money, because of you’re economically wealthy. Unlike greasers, they’re poor and stinky, most of them don’t even go to school, so that means they don’t get educated and more likely to have a harder life, full of failures.

Do you like taking care of your self, and always look pretty? Am sure you do, and that’s was every other socs likes to do sometimes! Looking like a piece of trash, is not where you belong, that’s the Greasers, smelly and ugly.. I would not want to have a friend that smells, and am sure you don’t either. We’re rich kids!

I hope what I have mentioned about the socs will make you understand who
we really are as people, and how much fun you will be having if you come with us! Remember, greasers is not where you belong, you deserve a lot better than those smelly rats!

Homework- evil penguin killing borat

In the dark cold world of Antartica, lived a penguin. But he was no normal penguin. He was an evil penguin called Pengu! One day, while Pengu was enjoying a warm Saturday in Antartica watching some NHL, he heard a loud noise outside his igloo. When Pengu went to go investigate what the loud noise was, he discovered it was a parcel which was dropped of by the local Mail-bear. In the parcel there was a DVD of Borat, and a replica lightsaber which he ordered of www.amazon.com/artics.After watching the movie Borat, Pengu was forever attracted to the mankini which Borat wore. From that day on, Pengu swore he would kill Sasha Baron Cohen, and take his mankini. This picture was taken after his dreams came true!

3 Doors Down

3 Doors Down

The 3 Doors Down is an American rock band, and was formed in 1996, by drummer vocalist Brad Arnold, guitarist Matt Roberts and bassist Todd Harrell. The three were friends who had grown up together, and shared a common interest in rock music. The band got its name when the three men were walking around the town, and they saw a building where some letters had fallen off, and it read as “Doors Down”. Since at the time they consisted of three people, they added the "3" to create "3 Doors Down." The band began playing around the city, where at some point, few years later, Todd Harrell asked guitarist Chris Henderson to join the band in order to make the sound more full.

They’re first album, "The Better Life" was released on February 2 , 2000, and went on to become the 11th best-selling album of that year, selling over 3 million copies. They’re second album, "Away from the Sun", Josh Freese was hired to record drums and was realised November 12, 2002 and got two platinum’s and one gold. They’re third album, "Seventeen Days" was realised February 8, 2005 and has since been certified platinum. And they’re fourth album, "3 Doors Down" was realised on May 20, 2008,selling 154,000 copies in its first week.

My favourite song is called “Here Without you” and I like it because I find it very emotional. I think that the video is really good. The song is basically, about being away from someone and missing them. And it's not about how long you've gone, it's about the loneliness that comes with missing someone. And last, I chose this band, because its my favourite one. I love all their songs because there’s always something about them that makes me like them so much. Its not really catchy, or anything but the lyrics are just amazing. And I just LOVE listening to this type of music, I just love it! This song was realises in 2003,from the album “Away from the Sun".
